Hello and welcome to my site! I’m Marie, a fine artist based in Cincinnati, Ohio and I’m passionate about capturing the beauty and grace of the human form as well as anything in the natural world that gives nourishment for body and soul. My work is carefully rendered with delicate detail bringing life to my subjects.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Miami University and later studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Eager to continue my studies while juggling full-time work, I enrolled in weekend and evening classes with local artists for many years and on two occasions took sabbaticals from work to study in Florence and Rome, Italy. Likewise, I have attended local figure drawing sessions for many years finding study from the live model important for understanding anatomy and for my continued development as an artist.

When people have commented on my “talent,” I always respond that it really is more about putting the time into study and hard work. On a deeper level, It really is about faith. One of my favorite authors, Madeleine L’Engle wrote: “To be an artist means to approach the light, and that means to let go our control, to allow our whole selves to be placed with absolute faith in that which is greater than we are.”

As I write this, I am reflecting on my failed attempt at a little plein air study of some flowers this afternoon.  I ended the session with my panel falling right on the palette and managed to get yellow paint all over me!  I’m not sure if I was in faith mode or not and I sure made a mess!  However, I will keep coming back to observing, looking for beauty and life to capture in paint.

Lately, I’ve enjoyed painting small still life paintings of fruits, veggies and flowers that I pick up at local farm markets and I will continue to give plein air painting a try!

Thank you for visiting my site and I hope you enjoy my work!
